Nissan North America's Madison County, Mississippi Assembly Plant, rated as one of the top ten projects in the United States for 2001, was awarded to HESM&A Consulting Engineers.
The overall project is approximately 2,500,000 square feet and carries a price tag estimated at $930,000,000.00. The plant will serve as a second production location of the company, producing 250,000 vehicles per year, and is expected to create 4,000 jobs and 26,000 indirect jobs when fully operational.HESM&A's Jackson, Mississippi Office, is providing final development of mechanical and electrical construction documents for almost 2 million square feet of this automotive production facility, including stamping, trim & chassis, body shop, and fascia areas. In addition to providing final drawings for the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, we are also developing shop drawings for fabrication. These drawings involve coordination among not only our engineering disciplines, but also numerous process piping and material conveyor systems throughout the facility. Our responsibilities also include "as- built" drawings for the HVAC and plumbing systems.
The numerous HVAC, plumbing and process piping systems has required extensive coordination between Nissan's engineering design team and HESM&A's staff. The many specialty areas included provisions for services to the assembly/conveyor lines, robot welders, and pit service facilities.
HESM&A's design effort will include the final development of the mechanical and electrical construction documents for 1,902,882 square feet. Our role will also include the development of shop drawings for the mechanical piping and HVAC systems that will be required for fabrication as well as the "as-built" documents that will be provided at the conclusion of the projects.
The estimated construction costs for the mechanical and electrical work designed by HESM&A are $35 million and $15 million, respectively. This is a "design-build" type project, with a 14-month "fast-track" schedule and an estimated completion date of Summer of 2003.
